Today it snowed all day and I decided to try a treat I saw in a coffee shop in Miami. Cocoa Puff Crispy Squares.
I just followed the recipe on the marshmallows bag for rice crispy treats. But I substituted the cocoa puffs for rice crispies.
A little sweet for every day but not bad for the day after snowboarding in freezing cold weather!
There is a sale on berries this week so I stocked up on some of my favorites. Raspberries, strawberries, blueberries, and blackberries. I really can't think of a better treat to chase away the winter blues. I love to mix them with yogurt like this brand of Skyr Icelandic Provisions yogurt. I like it because it's low in sugar, high in protein. I also don't like fat-free so this is also not fat free. I love all the flavors I have tried. I especially like the vanilla with real specks of vanilla bean and plain. Without a lot of sugar some plain yogurt is very sour. But these are more mild. (I am not paid to promote these. I just...
Winter solstice has come and gone so I am so looking forward to longer days again! Right now the sun goes down and it is dark in Chicago by just after 4:30 pm!
So how do I handle the cold dark days? Lots of chocolate for one.
Night Sledding.
And more snacks like tortilla chips, vegetables, and guacamole. Lemon ginger kombucha too. How are you enjoying the end of the year?
I saw these shooting star hydrangeas at the store and had to have them. They remind me of New Years, renewal, winter, snowflakes, and of course, shooting stars.
I love hydrangeas in general, especially the blue ones all over New England and Cape Cod. The regular white round ones are quite common here in the midwest along with pink ones. I heard it's the acidity in the soil that turns the flowers blue.
But I have never seen the shooting star hydrangea in a landscape. They are definitely a welcome addition to the frozen landscape here in the Midwest, USA. I will keep them inside though so they don't freeze to death. Haha.
Super cold and snowy Christmas Eve in Chicago for the holidays and football.
Chicago vs Cleveland.
