I love painting with the color red in the summer. IT reminds me of some of my favorite things, ripe strawberries, cherries, and tomatoes, the US flag, and red geraniums.
I hope to do more red paintings this month!
I made the most amazing carrot cake using the discard from sourdough starter. The cake is so moist. It's filled with carrots, spices like cinnamon, walnuts, coconut, crushed pineapple, and raisins. The frosting is cream cheese with pecans.
The lily of valley and iris are from the yard. It was so hot today the iris were just laying on the lawn, too weak to hold themselves up. So I cut them and took them inside and refreshed them with some cool water.
I saw these shooting star hydrangeas at the store and had to have them. They remind me of New Years, renewal, winter, snowflakes, and of course, shooting stars.
I love hydrangeas in general, especially the blue ones all over New England and Cape Cod. The regular white round ones are quite common here in the midwest along with pink ones. I heard it's the acidity in the soil that turns the flowers blue.
But I have never seen the shooting star hydrangea in a landscape. They are definitely a welcome addition to the frozen landscape here in the Midwest, USA. I will keep them inside though so they don't freeze to death. Haha.
Some last minute holiday wrapping. Still have some more to do.
I just can't get over these peonies in my bedroom!
There's a point where they reach perfection. The perfect bloom.
