Today was the last day of our summer Farmer's Market with farmers from Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana, and Michigan.  Also, French nuns residing in Chicago who sell their pastries and breads.   I really can't think of much better than local grown foods, and seeing foods in their more natural states, like these brussel sprouts.  My mother said when she was young, grocers always sold brussels sprouts this way and bananas on the stalk, just like I saw them selling bananas in Costa Rica recently.  Anyway, I really like getting out and talking to the producers and getting fresh high quality foods.  They often inspired some of my paintings.  You may have seen some of my farmer's market finds in a...

My son is having a birthday party at our home today.  Getting ready with confetti balloons and catered dinner.  Italian food.   Soon it will be dark and everyone will be here.  It's a family get-together tonight.  Also, a golden birthday :D.  Do you know what a golden birthday is?  It's the same age as the day of the month.  So my son is 19 on October 19.  That's how golden birthdays work.  Have you had your golden birthday yet?

One of my absolute favorite activities is packing packages.  Whether for birthdays, holidays, or my art clients!  I almost hate the idea of getting big enough that I cannot wrap the packages all by myself.  I've used little elf helpers in the past, especially during the holidays (mostly family members).  But I really enjoy the task.  To me, wrapping is like being an elf.  And I often pretend to reverse engineer the process of what it will be like to open the package.  I always hope that it turns out well.  I've learned some lessons along the way about how to package properly and to make sure paintings and prints travel safely.   Looking forward to an exciting rest of...
