I posted a video yesterday of my time at Fullersburg Woods in Oak Brook, IL.
I got a treat when I saw the rare ruby-crowned kinglet. The male kinglet himself is not rare here this time of year. But showing his ruby "crown" is more rare.
I also saw sparrows, warblers, thrush, northern flickers, American robins, doves, and mallard ducks.
The creek was swollen with water and it was cool and calm outside.
I celebrated Easter today with family. My parents have a farm in Wisconsin. They had some new baby chicks, just a week old.
My mother and daughter. Quite the height difference!
My mom always has a fun time decorating for the holidays.
I took a trip to the Field Museum in Chicago this week. Always entertaining and educational. One of the best parts for me as an artist who paints a lot of birds, is the hall of birds exhibit. People often ask me where I get all the information for rare birds I may paint or birds that are not found where I live. Sometimes I get photos through my own global travels. But these specimen are a wonderful tool for me as a bird artist. The birds are so perfectly preserved and the expressions and poses are so well displayed that their personality and habits are taken into consideration. I also feel glad knowing they were not harvested or...
I recently blogged about some baby birds that had fallen out of their nest during a rain and thunder storm. And they subsequently died. But the good news is, there is so much little life in my neighborhood and even back yard. This is my neighbors light and is seen from my back yard. The mother is eyeing me because she knows I am taking a picture.
She was so fat but is now thin and agile again. Her babies will chirp and she will come running.
