Hi there! Just popping in to say hello. I have been busy, a little under the weather with a sore throat. And getting ready for Christmas and upcoming travel plans, parties, etc.... Also, shipping many items to you! Thank you!
I am working on a vlog (video blog post) and hope to post it tonight or tomorrow. Anyway, stay warm and happy!
Wild Alaskan Cod is on sale and fresh at the grocer. So I took advantage and improvised a dish I originally remember from Cooks Illustrated Magazine's Make Ahead Edition. Usually make-ahead meals are reserved for non-fish entrees. But the cookbook had this one make-ahead fish dish. It is basically cod with olive oil, seasoning, cherry tomatoes, capers, parsley, and olives. I didn't have olives so left those out. There may have been more to the recipe but one can prepare and store in fridge for 12 - 24 hours. I only did a few hours then baked. I baked at 350 fahrenheit for about 20 to 25 min. That was plenty. The lighting in these pictures isn't the best....
We had a dinner with family at my parent's farm in Wisconsin. She ordered a Buche de Noel cake which came with candied cranberries on top.
It was delicious!
Decorations on a side table.
I also went to a German Christkindlmarket in Chicago.
One shaped like a tear drop hand painted in Austria with a wolf, some rabbits and birds. Another from Germany decorated with pearls.
I have been experimenting with homemade breads made with a sourdough starter. This particular loaf is a wheat and spelt flour loaf. I decided to bake both loaves at once and they turned into a twin loaf almost shaped like a peanut.
Baking them in a Dutch oven gives them that crusty outer layer.
Here is breakfast with butter and honeycomb. I also love strawberry jam with it. I have also been experimenting with different rye breads. Soon I hope to sprout some grains and make different sprouted breads.
