A stavkirke chapel on Washington Island, Wisconsin was lovingly built in the past half century by local residents who wanted to preserve and celebrate the Scandinavian heritage there.
I rode bikes around the island last weekend. This was the first time visiting the stavkirk chapel.
Inside there are faux painted marble pillars. There are also carved panels and altar.
There is a hand carved schooner hanging from the rafters in reference to the island community and heritage.
On the northern tip of Door County on the Peninsula in Wisconsin, in Lake Michigan, is Washington Island.
One has to ferry to the island.
There is a great and continuous history of fishing up here.
While beautiful now, quite cold and harsh come winter.
Another great view is Cave Point State Park.
I didn't. But some people were cliff jumping in certain places.
The water was crystal clear. If one is in the kayak, there are little caves to explore.
Beauty everywhere in Door County Wisconsin. This is Lake Michigan side of the peninsula.
